It has been a month and a half since I have been officially unemployed and unofficially self employed and boy has it been a tricky, interesting, anxious, stressful but all together fun ride so far. August 20, Ill try give you some insight into what I have been getting up to in my quest to create a self sustaining profitable business of my own.
Lets be honest, no matter if you are a selfless citizen or not it all boils down to the $$$. Without it we all end up in a difficult situation so that has been my goal initially to sort out. I started lecturing part-time (yes its not for everyone) but i love it. Its only about 6 hours a week, which gives me enough time to work on my other projects, and helps me manage my finances because i know exactly how much i will earn in a month (which isn’t much with lecturing) but enough to eat and pay insurances and car installments.
So lecturing pays the bills at the moment but the major passion is creating myStuffs. myStuffs targeted at start ups and entrepreneurs, but its for everyone really. I haven’t done any marketing* but i have so many referral web design and hosting clients already that i have had to quickly hire a php mysql developer. This was a difficult decision and a lot of thought went into it.
Firstly, the money. How will i pay him, will he perform, but you know what. No one said this would be easy or that it would work so sometimes you just have to take a calculated* chance. Granted i did check up on him and have a decent interview so i feel pretty confident he can perform. One of the qualities i did look for was enthusiasm and passion though. That is something i want to become the culture of myStuffs.
Other than that I have been trying in the spare time to build up the portfolio of myStuffs and market it as best i can online for free. Speaking of marketing… I want to tell you about a little idea we are working on. Its going to be huge and don’t forget you heard about it first here

I also registered myStuffs WEB CC and got my invoice templates and letter heads sorted. Opening the Business bank account felt like it was signing my life away but i feel great knowing that my first R100 is coming in monthly already.
The next post i will get a little technical in terms of the working processes of starting a business. With that being said Ill end off with a saying that has sort of stuck. “When starting a business its not about what should I do today, but what can i leave for tomorrow!”
