To simplify this process, I suggest going to your C drive and make a new folder called OE SIGS. For this project it will be much simpler than using that long path that leads to My Documents and your picture folders. Then, save a copy of the graphics you want to use into that C:\OE SIGS folder. Next, create a new folder called MY SIGS OE in My Documents. You will need that later on. The files you put in these 2 folders should not be deleted, moved or renamed. Otherwise, your sigs in OE will not work. It would be best if anyone who uses these instructions will use the same folder names and locations as described above. That way if help is needed it would be easier if everyone is doing it the same way with the same folder names and locations.
CREATING THE HTML FILES:
* Make sure you have already placed copies of the desired graphics in C:\OE SIGS. Also make sure you have created a new folder in My Documents called MY SIGS OE
* Open Notepad by going to: START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>NOTEPAD or you can put a shortcut for Notepad on the desktop.
* Copy the following line shown in red:
<img src="C:\OE SIGS\YOUR FILE NAME.gif">
* Paste it on Notepad. Replace "Your file name" with the actual name of your picture file from C:\OE SIGS and make sure it ends with .gif or .jpg depending on what format your file is. The file name must be entered exactly or the signature will not work.
* Click "file", "save as" and browse to find the folder MY SIGS OE and click to open it. Name the file whatever you want to call it. Example: Butterfly sig.htm. Make sure it ends in .htm. Click in the "save as type" box and select "all files". Then "save"
* Your sig HTML file is now saved. Be sure not to move, delete or rename these HTML files. Otherwise, OE will not know where to find them.
* NOTE: The line of code as well as the picture file names must be exact. One wrong letter or space can cause the signature not to work.
TO ADD THE SIG IN Outlook Express:
* In OE click TOOLS>OPTIONS>SIGNATURES
Click "new". It will name it "Signature 1", etc. You can click it then click "rename" and call it whatever you want.
* Look below and select "file", then "browse" to find MY DOCUMENT\MY SIGS OE folder. Click in the "files of type" box and click "HTML". Then, Select the desired file and click "open".
* If you want the sig to automatically be added to all outgoing email put a check by the option at the top. If you have several sigs and you want one to be default, just click it and click "make default". Then, click "apply" and "ok".
I chose not to check mine to insert by default.
* Start a new blank email or stationery. If you checked for the sig to be inserted by default it will automatically be there. Otherwise, when you are ready for the sig you would click INSERT, SIGNATURE and select the desired one. I find that it is better not to have it insert the sig by default. However, you decide the way that works best for you.
